Starting in 1979, Xx press began publication of mimeographed literary chapbooks to address a perceived need to provide an alternative outlet for Newfoundland writers.

Founded in 1980 to publish Newfoundland history and literature, Harry Cuff Publications Limited has published over 200 titles during 26 years of operation -- counting among its many publications: the Newfoundland Quarterly, vols 3-5 of the Encyclopedia of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Voyage of Discovery social studies textbook... and numerous other books from diverse genres.

During this time, Zyqote Systems was incorporated as a print and digital technology research affiliate. With the winding down of the parent firm in 2006, information on Harry Cuff Publications continues to be available online.

The Xx press imprint continues the work of original writing of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians available to a wider audience, as part Zyqote Systems Incorporated range of digital information services.
